On the way down, I stopped in Natural Bridge, Virginia.

a pretty amazing sight, actually.. 217 feet inside the arch, and maybe 90 feet across. it is part of a very beautiful streamside park.

a quick story--- i enjoyed the break in my ride to see this sight, and spent the afternoon hiking along the scenic trail, under the partial shade of the trees along the path. the day was extremely hot and humid, and it lightly rained a bit while i hiked. spent maybe 2.5 hours hiking what amounted to be about 4 and a half miles, and found a refreshing shaded lodge cafe at trails end with a big pitcher of pink lemonade. still tired from my hike, i went back thru the gift shop building to the parking lot. while walking thru the downstairs of this building, i smelled something very familiar....chlorine! aha!..a pool must be nearby!...sure enough, the basement housed a huge indoor pool, (for the adjacent hotel guests, i assumed) with only a few kids in it. i read the Rules board, and seeing nothing keeping me out, lost my shirt and shoes in a second and enjoyed a great cooling swim. What a refresher!

Some Florida- style greenery at Rainbow Springs State Park. This is a beautifully scenic natural spring with swimming area, falls, and trails with a wildlife sanctuary. Correct me if I am wrong, miss Ann, but I have been told the water is a constant 73 degrees all year long.
